Youtube

For many years now , the ever so popular Youtube has been draining out our internet usage - and helped getting distracted a lot Easier. But what makes us soooo addicted to this website as in , it's practically just like a TV online isn't it but a lot smaller?

You Tube is basically a collection of human beings' videos - so the website it self doesn't have any characteristics. In basic equation it’s Us+ Videos + Internet = You Tube, as in without any media to upload from it's users, the site would be so successful. But the characters YouTube caters for is very very broad!  Some of these include, Entertainment, Comedy, Music, People and blogs. YouTube needs to cater for these characteristics, as it needs to attract as many viewers as possible - in order for it to make full money potential. We all contribute to YouTube which I think really brings along the characteristics of it- it's a bit like Wikipedia in a way. We as users or views contribute and make YouTube the characteristic of what it is. YouTube’s most popular characteristic though can change very very quickly! One moment the main characteristic is Entertainment and we're watching a goat sing Taylor swift's new song - next minute we're watching a Music video that has gotten more than a billion view - you guest it Gangnum style!
In summary I would say that You Tube's main characteristic would be what it says in it's name ' YOU'.

Who are the audience/users of the YouTube?
Believe it or not YouTube is actually reached more by US adults of the age of 18- 34! As stated in a statistic release by the Google/ YouTube company

But it doesn’t mean that the video site is currently aimed at this audience- the target audience not surprisingly. Another type of audience would be mobile phone users. They are counted as a separate audience as they are usually people who watch things on the go or have different needs from the website that a normal PC user would need

How does it change the way audiences experience and understand the media?

It changes the way the audience experiences and understands the media as things go viral very quickly! If majority of people like a video or agree with it’s point / aim it will no doubt go viral- and once things go viral sure they do get hate and can start arguments but usually everyone jumps on board!

What are the relationships between the new and the existing media technologies?

The relationship between new and existing media technologies is very good I would say. YouTube is pretty much a supporter of all websites and new technology forms. YouTube is probably one of the most mobile-friendly websites to use. Did you know that according to the company stats 40% of users of the website are actually using it from a smart phone! According to the stats release YouTube is available on millions of devices.

YouTube also relies on new and existing media to remain popular and successful, as in how many times on other social media websites such as Facebook and twitter have you clicked on a link on these websites that have lead you to YouTube!

What is the creative impact of the new media technology?

Sooo many people are getting creative on YouTube. YouTube has given this generation a reason to make creative home movies – to share it with the worth or even a long shot to become viral as quite a few have. YouTube has enabled its users to express themselves creatively. So many people are now thinking of new ways of coming up videos and ways to present them. Even so that users have opened up their lives for entertainment further known as ‘ youtubers’. They earn money for presenting their life creatively and earn about $2.50 per 1,000 views according to YouTube. Examples of Youtubers would be : Miranda Sings, Zoella and Troye Sivan

What is the social impact of the YouTube technology?

YouTube has enabled people to express themselves in person a lot easier just the only problem is that you are not just expressing your self to your friends or targeted viewers but to the whole world. As an impact, YouTube has heavily impacted the way we socialise both on and offline! How many times have you just had a conversation just about a YouTube video or that your friend was like ‘ omg have you seen this (video) it is sooo funny’. Our social life is becoming more about the people who are becoming viral and their videos and talking about them and their lives rather than talking about our own lives.

How has YouTube technologies affected media production and the circulation and consumption of media products?

Basically with YouTube things get around a lot quicker! Messages and clever marketing campaigns get around so easily! Because YouTube is a visual, people are more inclined to believe what they are seeing opposed to written text. With the help of Facebook and other social media websites the circulation of media products gets around so fast because of that one ‘ Share ‘ button. No longer do we need to wait for the news to tell us what is happening nor do we need to go to the movies to see entertainment. We can consume it all online on YouTube
